Sandwich Spreads
I am constantly frustrated by technology, and now I am sharing my frustration with pretty much everyone else. (hehehehe)
When we bought our house over 10 years ago, it had an audio system which consisted of docking stations for iPods (2nd generation) that played over the house speakers. Anytime we had a problem with the system, I could call the people that installed it, they tip-tapped on their computer and …problem solved. Until they went out of business.
Now, when we play the iPod, it plays one song…over and over and over.
Naturally, everyone assumes I’m the problem:
Did you push “shuffle”? they ask
Yes.
Try changing the playlist?
Yep.
Unplug, turn off, then reverse that process?
Uh huh. Then I put my right hand in, took my right hand out, did the hokey pokey and turned myself about, but you go ahead and do everything all over again if that will make you feel better.
The problem is that the system is so old, no one uses it or can fix it anymore. Enter Sonos.
Which worked great till we changed our wi-fi (which wasn’t working excerpt in the family room on the third Tuesday of every other month if the wind came out of the east at 15mph).
Enter our techie friend, who has now made it his mission to get music back into our lives. Foolish, foolish man.
First attempt was to poke around in our basement where all the equipment is stored, tracing wires back to their source, unplugging, then plugging things in, swapping out plugs and boosters. It was like NCIS meets Terminator, and the machines were winning this round.
Not to be defeated, he bravely came back, armed with new cables, all the wi-fi passwords, holy water, garlic cloves, wooden stakes and a silver bullet. Ten minutes later, he was back, defeated once again by the evil cyborg that we call King Sonos.
While he is licking his wounds and plotting out his revenge, we are doing what we used to do as kids before remote controls were invented: when the same song plays for the third time, we play rock, paper, scissors to see who has to get up and go hit the button to get another song to play. So much for advanced technology.
